MATCH REPORTS
BEXLEY VS WOMEN'S XI
25 April 2021
It was a pretty cold afternoon in the wildlands of Dartford but even with the skipper losing the toss we started out as we tend to prefer by batting first on a decent wicket...the same could not be said for the outfield, I've played on better rugby pitches!
Anyway, out our girls went, with Ella unfortunately back early having got a good one...the perils of being an opening batter. Jimmy and Isla built a good foundation playing sensibly and running aggressively against some pretty decent accurate bowling, putting on a partnership of over 50 runs at slightly better than a run a ball, before both being retired on 30. Our middle order of Izzy, Emily B and Amelie played sensibly to keep the scoreboard ticking over before Jessie and Tilly came in to increase the rate with 22 runs off the last 12 balls...a very professional team batting performance saw us post a score of 133 off our 20 overs.
At which point I had to leave, giving Jerry Giles strict instructions not to mess it up!
I should not have doubted them. By all accounts Jessie and Anna opening up, bowling fast and accurately, with Anna picking up 2 wickets, before Emily came on and ripped out the heart of the Bexley innings with astounding figures of 6 for 4 off 4 overs! That just left Tara, Isla and Ella to come to tidy things up and the game was done, bowling Bexley out for 41 runs.
A great first win..there will be tougher challenges ahead, but great to get out and put on such a good all-round performance. Well done all and many thanks as always to Clare for scoring and of course all the mums/Dads ferrying the girls to and from the game.
