BOYS & GIRLS U7
At TWCC, the youth cricket programme starts for children in School Year 2.

Each season, we take a maximum of 20 boys and 20 girls. The boys and girls train together in Year 2 but are then split as of Year 3.

The one-hour weekly sessions usually run from the last week in April through to the last week in August. The sessions are held on the main pitch at The Nevill, on Friday evenings from 5.15pm-6.15pm.
We know that families go on holiday in the summer so weekly attendance is not compulsory throughout the holidays, but regular attendance is recommended – real progress is very noticeable amongst those children who train regularly.

The aim of the sessions is to be a fun introduction to cricket. The children do lots of different batting, catching, throwing & bowling drills, as well as playing games to improve their basic technique. As they are obviously still young, the sessions are pitched to make it lots of fun and all-inclusive.
The sessions are led by one of our ECB qualified coaches with support from DBS verified volunteers.

As a rough guide, the first 30 minutes is usually skills-focused, and the children play kwik cricket games for the last 30 minutes.

All training is done with soft balls, (ie tennis balls and windballs). Plastic bats are supplied, although children may bring their own bat if they wish. NB: a wooden bat doesn’t hit tennis balls/windballs as far as a plastic bat!
